As humans, when we are sick, we can simply go to the doctor, explain our symptoms and receive treatment. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy for our animal companions.
Because our pets can’t verbally express to us when they are not feeling well or have suffered an injury, it’s hard to know when something is wrong. What’s more, some animals have a high tolerance for pain and can mask the signs of an illness or injury for a long time, often not exhibiting any outward symptoms until the condition has progressed. It’s up to us, as pet owners and veterinary professionals, to be the voice for our pets, recognize the signs that something may be wrong and take the appropriate measures to take care of the problem in a timely manner.
At Happy Tails Animal Hospital, we have access to a wide range of veterinary diagnostic tools to help us identify what’s happening inside your pet’s body, even when the outside shows no signs.
When your pet isn’t feeling well, the first step in getting them well again is conducting a thorough physical exam. Then, we must delve deeper and look below the surface of the skin to examine your pet from the inside. We do this through things like blood work, urinalysis and x-rays. These tools allow our experienced doctors to identify precisely what’s bothering your pet so we can diagnose and treat the problem as quickly and effectively as possible.
With many illnesses and injuries, time is of the essence and every moment counts. A positive outcome depends on a fast and accurate diagnosis. Happy Tails Animal Hospital is equipped with an in-house laboratory where we are able to run a wide variety of tests and achieve almost immediate results. In many cases, we can get answers before you and your pet even leave our office. A timely diagnosis can mean all the difference in the world to your companion, and can greatly improve the chances of a full and speedy recovery.
One of the most important diagnostic tools we use at Happy Tails is digital radiology, also known as x-ray imaging. This painless, safe, and completely non-invasive technique uses very low doses of radiation to capture an image of the inside of your pet’s body. We can use radiography to evaluate almost any organ in the body, including the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs, as well as the bones.
Radiography can be used to diagnose a wide variety of medical conditions, including disease of the kidneys, heart or liver, intestinal blockages, cancer, bladder stones, chronic arthritis, broken bones and a number of other medical problems.
Our radiology service is staffed by caring, skilled professionals who will provide state of the art care with compassion and expertise to reach an accurate and timely diagnosis for your pet.
