Dr. Jen Griffin

Owner, Veterinarian

As a child, Dr. Griffin was actually extremely frightened of dogs—she would have to placed on her father’s shoulders if one was around! After her family cared for a rescue dog named Midnight and he showed young Dr. Griffin the compassion and love animals can give, she grew to love and trust them, and decided at the age of six that she wanted to become a veterinarian!

Jen grew up in the Chicago area and received a Bachelor’s of Science from Michigan State University in Wildlife Management. After graduating from the University of Illinois’s College of Veterinary Medicine, she began working at clinics. After several years, she purchased Northbay Animal Hospital and converted it to Happy Tails Animal Hospital to serve the surrounding community.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Griffin enjoys internal medicine, laser therapy, and pain management. She loves her challenging and rewarding career and is thankful she’s able to help animals every day!

Jen lives with her husband and two young daughters. The family has three dogs, Titan, Parker, and Luna, as well as two indoor cats, Swiper and Pascal, and Pumpkin, the outdoor cat. In her free time, Dr. Griffin likes crafts, scrapbooking, swimming, running, and playing with her girls. She also enjoys camping as a family.

Dr. James Askew

Associate Veterinarian

A native of Gulfport, Mississippi, Dr. James Askew attended Mississippi State University and completed a residency at Oklahoma State University before heading to the Caribbean to study at Ross University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated with his DVM in 1996, and has been serving animals as a licensed veterinarian ever since!

Dr. Askew began operating Saucier Veterinary Hospital in 1997, alongside two other doctors. He is particularly interested in the care and treatment of exotic animals, including wildlife, marine mammals, primates, birds, and reptiles. In order to provide state-of-the-art treatment for these fascinating creatures, Dr. Askew is Storz Endoscopy certified and has also been certified in venomous reptile handling by the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV).

In addition to his membership in ARAV, Dr. Askew is a proud member of the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Avian Veterinarians.
